New rules to reduce flight restrictions

The threat of flight restrictions from volcanic ash will be reduced from today with the introduction of new rules.

From noon today planes will be able to travel at higher ash densities.

The Irish Aviation Authority confirmed the new zones after agreement with aviation officials in Britain.

It is now hoped other European countries will also adopt the new safety measures which followed weeks of research and test flights.
