Survey: 75% of young carers start aged nine

Children who care for family members are being forced into adult roles prematurely as almost three quarters of young carers begin caring from the age of nine.

A new survey by the Carers Association reveals over a third of young carers are the primary carers.

Up to 61% of them provide a high level of care - including bathing.

Spokesperson Catherine Cox said children are being forced into adult roles prematurely and the Government needs to step in.
