Flight operations at Powerscourt airfield suspended
All flight operations at Powerscourt airfield in Co Wicklow have been suspended, pending the completion of an investigation into an accident which led to the deaths of two men last month.
Pilot, Doctor Michael Slazenger, and his passenger Noel Whitney died when their light aircraft clipped a tree after apparently abandoning an earlier attempt to land on April 10.
A preliminary report from the Air Accident Investigation Unit says the plane's left wingtip hit the ground beyond the runway before it crashed and burst into flames.
The wreck is still being examined to try and establish the exact cause of the accident.
