All road users are being today asked to take extra care this May Bank Holiday, which is a very high-risk period for accidents.

The Road Safety Authority says 28 people have died and 50 have been seriously injured on May Bank Holiday weekends since 2005.

It is pleading with drivers, pedestrians and cyclists to be extra vigilant - and for motorists especially to slow down, wear a seatbelt and never drink and drive.
