Plaque to be unveiled in memory of Roy Collins
A memorial plaque will be unveiled in Limerick today following an anniversary Mass for murder victim Roy Collins.
The 35-year-old father of two's killing led to street protests in the city and forced the Government to introduce tough new gangland crime laws.
Roy Collins was gunned down at an amusement arcade beside the Steering Wheel bar in the Roxboro Shopping centre on Holy Thursday last year.
He was not connected to Limerick's feuding gangs and is understood to have been an innocent man who crossed the wrong people.
His murder sent shockwaves across the city and led to the introduction of new legislation targeting gangland criminality.
A plaque to his memory will be unveiled at the spot where he was killed later this afternoon.
His father Steve Collins said the community was anxious to see that his son be commemorated in some way.
