More than half of Irish workers pulled a non-genuine sick day last year - according to new research.

More than half of Irish workers pulled a non-genuine sick day last year - according to new research.

A total of 57% of workers lied to their bosses about being ill - compared to just 37% in 2008.

It was found that 63% of those polled said they would not hesitate to call in sick this year.

However, workers would still want to have a rock-solid story.

Employment law firm Peninsula - who carried out the survey - said that employers should implement disciplinary procedures where a fake illness is proved.
