Garda released in 'leaked Sargent letter' case
A female garda who was being questioned in relation to the leaking of a letter to a newspaper which led to the resignation of Green Party Junior Minister Trevor Sargent has been released without charge.
The woman, who is in her thirties, was questioned at Lucan garda station after being detained yesterday.
Gardaí say she was released last night and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Mr Sergeant stepped down after it was revealed by the Evening Herald that he had written to gardaí in Balbriggan on headed departmental paper about a constituent who was facing criminal charges.
