McAleese to attend opening of Dublin theatre

President Mary McAleese is the guest of honour at the opening night of Dublin's new Grand Canal Theatre.

Ireland's new cultural ambassador Gabriel Byrne, broadcaster Gay Byrne and actor Brendan Gleeson are among those attending the show tonight.

Opening night features the ballet 'Swan lake' with performers from the Russian State Ballet

The €80m Docklands theatre, which has 2,111 seats, was designed by the same architect that designed the ground zero monument in New York.
