O'Gorman: Cardinal's defence is 'inexcusable'

Abuse survivor and campaigner Colm O'Gorman has described as "reprehensible and inexcusable" Cardinal Sean Brady's defence after the recent revelations of the Church's handling of clerical sex abuse.

The head of the Catholic Church in Ireland has apologised to anyone who has been hurt by any failure on his part.

It comes following revelations he represented the church at meetings with two teenage victims of notorious child abuser Fr Brendan Smyth in the 1970's.

At the meeting, the victims were asked to sign an oath of secrecy.

In his St Patrick's Day homily, Cardinal Brady said he is ashamed that he hasn't always upheld the values that he professes and believes in.

But Mr O'Gorman has said that is not good enough and is reiterating his call for the Cardinal's resignation.
