Union representatives to meet with Postbank management

The Communications Workers Union is meeting today with Postbank management to find out why the bank is closing its Irish operations.

Some 260 jobs are on the line as the bank, which is a joint venture between An Post and BNP Paribas, plans to withdraw from the market by the end of the year.

At a staff meeting in Athlone in Co Westmeath last night Postbank staff expressed anger at being left in the dark about their future.

CWU spokesman Ian McArdle says the workers want answers.

"We will be putting to management the questions that we have received and trying to get as much information," Mr McArdle said.

"People want answers, and they want them now."
