Public servants are to escalate their protest against pay cuts after low-paid civil servants last night voted in favour of strike action.

Public servants are to escalate their protest against pay cuts after low-paid civil servants last night voted in favour of strike action.

The Civil and Public Services Union ballot was carried by an 83% majority on a turnout of 76%.

Up to now, CPSU members were participating in a work to rule, without widespread disruption or inconvenience to the public.

However CPSU general secretary Blair Horan says that action will now escalate unless the government reconsiders the cuts.
