Cancer Society welcomes positive news on services

The Irish Cancer Society has said it welcomes the progress that has been made in the centralisation of breast cancer services.

A Health Information and Quality Authority study shows the eight designated centres for breast cancer care are all providing high quality and safe services.

It follows the decision to reduce the number of locations providing treatment from 33 in 2007 to eight by the end of last year.

Kathleen O’Meara, from the Irish Cancer Society, said the HIQA report shows the move has been a success.
