The trial of a man charged with the sexual abuse and ill-treatment of a boy will begin at the Central Criminal Court this morning.

The 52-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty to 47 charges of sexually assaulting the child and one charge of the wilful neglect or ill-treatment of the same boy on dates between April 11, 2001 and June 23, 2004.

Mr Justice Barry White told the jury of six men and six women that he was dealing with other matters and asked them to return tomorrow.
