High proportion of 'ghost estates' in north-west
Analysis on the aftermath of the property crash has revealed that parts of the north-west have been left with a housing glut that could take years to sell off.
A map which pinpoints the effects of the property crash has been drawn up by the National Institute of Regional and Spatial Analysis
It shows that Sligo and Leitrim were found to have some of the highest levels of so-called "ghost estates" in the country.
In Leitrim, almost 3,000 homes were built during the boom, despite population projections showing just 588 homes were actually needed.
