British Prime Minister Gordon Brown could be called in to help salvage talks aimed at securing the North's power-sharing government, it emerged today.

It is now looking increasingly likely that the Irish and British governments may have to help drive the talks to a positive conclusion as Sinn Féin and the Democratic Unionists are again at loggerheads.
