Government proposal stops short of public inquiry into banking collapse

The Government is to set up a commission of investigation to enquire into the collapse in the banking system by the summer, and will complete its work within six months.

The move is likely to anger Opposition parties, which are demanding a public inquiry, as well as significant Oireachtas involvement in the process.
