Gormley seeks talks on banking inquiry

Green Party leader John Gormley is looking to meet with the Taoiseach today over the banking inquiry that is causing controversy before it is even announced.

It follows reports at the weekend that Fianna Fáil members of Cabinet want the investigation into Ireland's banking crisis conducted in private.

The Greens want to use an Oireachtas Committee-style process to investigate the practises of our banks during the booms times.

According to weekend reports, the Government is in favour of conducting the inquiry in private.

With the Green Party adamant that the Dáil has a role in the inquiry, Party Leader John Gormley has now requested a meeting with the Taoiseach to discuss the inquiry.

The Cabinet is expected to sign off on the format of the inquiry at its weekly meeting tomorrow.
