Major security incident in Shannon Airport

A major security incident is underway at Shannon airport following the arrest of a passenger in the last hour.

A plane carrying 224 passengers was forced to divert to Shannon following reports of a unruly passenger on board.

The Arke Fly plane was en route from Amsterdam to the island Aruba in the Carribean, and has now been evacuated while a full search of the aircraft takes places.

Shannon gardaí have arrested a 44-year-old Dutch male passenger for questioning and are due to search all passengers later

The full search is expected to force the plane and passengers to remain grounded for a number of hours at least.
