France seeks extradition of alleged IRA man

The French authorities are seeking the extradition of a Dublin man in connection with alleged terrorism and weapons trafficking offences, the High Court heard today.

The French are seeking the surrender of Kieron Doran, formerly Daly, (aged 31) with an address at Allenton Gardens, Ballycreagh, Tallaght.

In a European arrest warrant seeking Mr Doran’s surrender, it is claimed the Dublin man was involved in a Real IR- led attempt to develop a weapon and ammunition supply through France in late 2003. It is alleged the 31-year-old arrived in France by ferry on August 10, 2003 as part of this operation.

Mr Doran was arrested in the early hours of this morning in the Tallaght area.

Detective Sergeant Jim Kirwan told Mr Patrick McGrath BL, for the State, that he arrested Mr Doran on foot of the European arrest warrant, endorsed for execution by the High Court on September 22 last.

Detective Sergeant Kirwan told the court that when he explained the nature of the offences alleged in the arrest warrant, Mr Doran replied “yes, I know all about it”.

Mr Justice Michael Peart today said he was satisfied that the man brought before him was Kieran Doran, formerly Daly. Judge Peart made the matter returnable to later this month.

The court was told that conditions for bail had been agreed. Kathleen Leader BL, for Mr Doran, said her client would put forward his own bond of €20,000. He is to surrender his passport and sign on at Tallaght Garda Station three times a week.
