Bail for three teens charged in connection with stabbing
Three teenage boys charged in connection with the stabbing of a man during an aggravated burglary in Dublin last month, have been remanded on continuing bail pending directions from the DPP.
Two boys (aged 17) have been charged at the Children’s Court with burglary while in possession of knives, at a house in north Dublin, on the night of December 17. The third boy (16) is charged with having a pick axe handle during the alleged burglary.
The three defendants live in the same area as the complainant, who had told the court earlier that he was threatened that he would be shot, that he feared for his life and would have to move out of his home.
Today Judge Bryan Smyth noted that the State was seeking further time to obtain directions from the DPP in relation to the case. All three, who were accompanied to court by family members, were remanded on bail to appear again next month.
As conditions of their bail, the three have been ordered to reside at different addresses to their family homes, not to have contact with each other or the victim, to obey a curfew and to sign on daily at their local garda station
Last month Garda Daniel Sweeney had told the court it was alleged that the man, who is in his 40s, “was set on by a number of youths.”
He said it was alleged that the man was chased into his home by the three, one of whom had a pickaxe handle and the other two had knives.
He had told the court the man sustained three stab wounds as he “fought for his life and thought he was going to die.”
The alleged victim has told the court that he now intended to move out of his house and that he feared for his life. He said that the 16-year-old told him he was “going to get a 12 gauge and blow my head off.”
He had also told the court he received wounds to his arms while trying to stop the youths stabbing him in the chest.
