Galway gardaí seek witnesses after pensioner assaulted
Gardaí in Galway are looking for witnesses to an aggravated burglary during which an 80-year-old woman was assaulted.
The woman was taken to hospital after the attack at her home on the Shantalla Road in Galway city yesterday, at 12.30pm.
The woman managed to raise the alarm and the culprit fled the scene on foot.
The pensioner was taken to University College Hospital in Galway where she was treated for her injuries, which are not life-threatening.
Gardaí have asked that anyone who was in the vicinity of Shantalla Road between 11am and 2pm yesterday afternoon contact them at Mill St station on 091 538 000.
The culprit is described as being in his early twenties, about six foot in height, clean-shaven, with short dark hair.
