Bord Gáis workers set for pay increase

Nearly 1,000 workers at Bord Gáis are set to get a 3.5% pay increase this week, pushing the average salary at the company to almost €70,000.

The rise is likely to cause a major headache for the Government which last week forced through pay cuts for public sector workers.

It's reported the increase at Bord Gáis, a semi-state company, could be followed by another 2.5% hike next year.

Communications Minister Minister Eamon Ryan said it's not an area where the Government can dictate terms.
