Unions to discuss next move on Monday

Public servants reportedly face a pay cut of between 5% and 6% in the Budget after talks on the issue between the Government and unions broke down yesterday.

The Government refused to agree to a plan which would see civil servants take time off instead of pay cuts.

IMPACT's Peter McLoone said unions would meet on Monday to discuss their next move.

"Once again, in the same 12 months, public servants are faced with the imposition of pay cuts," he said.

"They will be particularly angry when this was avoidable in a way that the people who work to provide public services would have had preference for…

"Whether that anger transfers itself into industrial action, and when, we'll see on Monday."
