Govt should 'apply for EU funding for flood crisis'

Labour MEP Alan Kelly is urging the Government to apply for EU Solidarity funding to help those affected by this week's flooding.

The fund was set up after catastrophic flooding in Germany and Austria in 2002.

It is available in the event of an "extraordinary regional disaster".

Mr Kelly said Ireland may be entitled to financial help from Europe.
