Mortgage lenders extend period of grace before legal action

The country's biggest mortgage lenders have pledged to give those in difficulty more time to tackle their arrears before taking legal action against them.

There is already a six-month period of grace in place for homeowners who are finding it difficult to make mortgage repayments.
