Family recovering after 'tiger' kidnapping ordeal

More details are expected to emerge today about the 'tiger' kidnapping involving former Kilkenny hurler, Adrian Ronan.

The eight-hour ordeal began when armed men turned up at Mr Ronan's home yesterday morning, separated him from his wife, and told him she would be killed if he did not cooperate.

It has now emerged that at least one shot was fired near Anne Ronan when she was being held at an isolated weather station outside Kilkenny city.

The gang had demanded up to €3m from the branch of Bank of Ireland on Parliament Street where Mr Ronan worked.

It is however thought they panicked before they could get any money, and released their hostage unharmed at around 2pm.

Descriptions of those suspected of being involved, and the cars they used, could be released later today as Gardaí continue to hunt for the kidnappers.
