Former Kilkenny hurler was held in tiger kidnapping

Gardaí in Kilkenny are investigating after a bank official and his family were held hostage by an armed gang.

No-one was hurt during the incident, which targetted a branch of the Bank of Ireland in Kilkenny city.

The bank official was former Kilkenny hurler, Adrian Ronan.

His wife was taken by the gang during the ordeal, but the family - including the couple's three children - have since been reunited.

The gang - believed to have involved three men - escaped empty handed.
