Man charged with Walsh manslaughter
A 28-year-old man has appeared in court in Australia, charged with the manslaughter of Gearoid Walsh in Sydney.
Tobias Liam Simmons appeared before Parramatta Court via video link this morning, after handing himself into Australian police yesterday.
Gearoid Walsh had been on life support after sustaining head injuries outside a takeaway in the Sydney suburb of Coogee last Sunday.
The 23-year-old had been in the country for just a month and was out celebrating his sister's birthday at the time.
Yesterday, following an emotional appeal by Gearoid's mother Treasa, a local man handed himself in to police and was questioned over the incident.
The 28-year-old was later charged with one count of manslaughter, reckless wounding and assault.
At a court appearance this morning, he was granted bail and will appear back in court next month.
