Swine flu surge expected to get worse

The number of new swine flu cases surged by more than 9,200 in the last week with the highest infection rates among school children, it emerged tonight.

Health chiefs revealed 109 people stricken with the H1N1 virus were in hospital with 23 fighting for their lives in intensive care.
