ICTU to launch campaign against cutbacks
The Irish Congress of Trade Unions is due to formally launch a campaign against the Government's budgetary policies today.
The trade union movement is accusing the Government of targeting ordinary workers and cutting vital public services rather than introducing a fair response to the economic crisis.
It is also accusing the Fianna Fáil-Green Party coalition of taking no action to address rising unemployment.
The campaign being launched today will include a national day of protest in early November during which public and private-sector workers will be asked to attend marches in at least six occasions.
Further details of the planned marches are expected to be unveiled later.
