Farmers to mount tractor protests in 29 towns

Thousands of farmers are expected to drive their tractors into towns around the country today as part of protest to highlight falling farm incomes.

The Irish Farmers' Association says government cutbacks are causing a crisis for farm families and the rural economy.

It says it expects large numbers of farmers to drive their tractors to 29 town centres today to highlight the problem.

The protest is likely to cause major traffic disruption.
