200 jobs at risk in Dublin company

Linen Supply of Ireland said today that around 200 of its employees are likely to be made redundant.

An examiner appointed to the company has recommended the closure of two of its Dublin plants at Fonthill and Naas Road.

The firm says it deeply regrets the decision and it is a sad day for the company.

However, Linen Supply of Ireland says it is clear painful decisions would have to be taken in a bid to save up to 300 other jobs.

"We deeply regret the proposed plant closures and the fact that up to 200 employees are facing redundancy," said Tara Devitt, head of human resources at the company.

"As we indicated in our application for examinership, the textile side of our business has been badly hit by the downturn in the hospitality and retail sectors.

"This together with a high cost base put the company in an extremely difficult situation. The Examiner feels these changes are necessary if we are to have a viable business.

"We will be meeting with employees from these plants and their representatives in the coming days to discuss redundancy terms."

Meanwhile its Micronclean plant in Spiddal, which employs 69 people, is said to be viable and the company believes it should be established as a separate entity.
