Former Taoiseach John Bruton is due to make a fresh call on behalf of the EU today for the United States to abandon the death penalty.

Mr Bruton, the EU Ambassador to the US, will lead a delegation of high-ranking officials in calling on all countries to end the "cruel and inhumane" practice of capital punishment.
