Dáil business to resume after Lisbon vote

The normal cut-and-thrust of Irish politics is set to resume today when the Dáil convenes for the first time since the passing of the Lisbon Treaty referendum.

The issue of John O'Donoghue's expenses is expected to dominate Leader's Questions this afternoon.

Last Friday, the Ceann Comhairle revealed details of more than €100,000 in expenses he has claimed since taking up the job of Dail chairman in 2007.

The expenses included almost €90,000 spent on foreign travel and more than €13,000 spent on domestic travel, mainly flights between Dublin and Kerry.

Labour has called for a meeting of all party leaders to decide how to respond to the situation, while Fine Gael has suggested that Mr O'Donoghue should return some of the money.
