Barroso backed for second term

MEPs voted by a clear majority today to keep Jose Manuel Barroso as European Commission president for another five years.

Confirmation came in Strasbourg after months of wrangling and muscle-flexing by centre-left MEPs determined to oust the centre-right former Portuguese prime minister.
