Sinn Féin has said it would be appropriate and welcome if the Ceann Comhairle made a statement on the expenses row in the Dáil when it resumes tomorrow.

John O’Donoghue has defended expenses incurred while he was Minister for Sport and Tourism, claiming he had no knowledge of the costs involved when he travelled abroad at the taxpayers' expense.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Mr O'Donoghue has a personally appointed political advisor at a cost of €90,000 to the taxpayer.

Sinn Féin leader in the Dáil Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin has said that while not questioning the Ceann Comhairle's position, more clarity is needed.
