C&AG highlights major welfare overpayments

Tens of millions of euro worth of social welfare benefits has been paid to people above what they were entitled to, according to the latest annual report from the state's spending watchdog.

The Comptroller and Auditor General says stricter controls and more accountability are needed to eliminate high levels of fraud and errors in the welfare system.
