Elderly man charged with sexually assaulting children

A 70-year-old man was tonight charged with sexually assaulting children in Belfast.

The pensioner is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court in the morning.

Police said the charges followed incidents in the north of the city last Friday and had been brought against the man by detectives from the Child Abuse Investigation Team.

The man has been charged with two counts of sexual assault against children and one of engaging in a sexual activity in the presence of children, said a police spokeswoman.
