Police discover bomb on Armagh pavement
A viable bomb has been discovered on a pavement in Armagh, police said today.
The small device was found in the Windmill Hill area at around 11.15pm last night.
Police described it as ’crude, but viable’. Army Technical Officers were called to the scene to make the device safe.
Newry and Armagh Assembly member Dominic Bradley condemned those who had left the object.
“Those responsible for leaving this device in Armagh on Friday night have shown a blatant disregard for public safety,” said the SDLP representative.
“It is extremely worrying that this device has been described as viable and we are very lucky that no one has been injured or killed.
“Those responsible need to wake up and realise that their actions are without any support in the community. They are enemies of peace.
“And just as this type of reckless behaviour was wrong in the past it is wrong now and deserves total and utter condemnation.
“I would appeal to anyone with any information to pass it over to the PSNI as a matter of urgency.”
