Hundreds join striking port workers on Dublin march

Hundreds of supporters have joined striking dock workers on a protest march near Dublin Port this morning.

The demonstration is causing significant traffic disruption in the Ringsend area and along the East Link toll bridge.

Around 30 employees of Peel Ports have been on strike for several weeks as part of a dispute over job cuts and severance terms.

They mounted the action when the company withdrew from talks and imposed nine compulsory redundancies.

One employee on today's march said she was being offered just €4,000 redundancy pay after 11 years working with the company.

SIPTU is vowing to step up its action against Peel Ports if the company does not agree to enter discussions.
