Motorists in Dublin are being warned of traffic disruption in the docklands area this morning due to a protest march by striking port workers.

The workers and their supporters are planning to march on both sides of the East Link toll bridge from 10.30am.

Around 30 employees of Peel Ports have been on strike for several weeks as part of a dispute over job cuts, redundancy terms and planned changes to pay and conditions.

They mounted the action when the company withdrew from Labour Court talks and imposed nine compulsory redundancies.

The Dublin Council of Trade Unions has urged its members to join today's rally.

SIPTU, meanwhile, says the workers will escalate their action even further if Peel Ports does not agree to enter discussions.
