Baby who died at Sligo Hospital to be buried today

A seven-week-old baby girl who died at Sligo General Hospital earlier this week is due to be laid to rest today.

Shakira Farrell-Scanlon was brought to hospital on Saturday morning with suspected head injuries.

She lost her fight for life on Tuesday.

The Gardaí have mounted an investigation into the death and have conducted an examination of the family home in Sligo.

A post mortem was carried out on Wednesday, but the results are not being released and gardaí are awaiting further tests before deciding on the course of their investigation.

Shakira is due to be laid to rest today following 11am funeral mass at St Anne's Church in Sligo.
