A new process to fast-track jobseekers' payments is set to be introduced in around one-third of social welfare offices around the country.

The process will see staff members record, register and decide on claims in a single sitting.

Social and Family Affairs Minister Mary Hanafin says the changes will significantly reduce the current processing time of three to six weeks.
