Anti-poverty group warns against welfare cuts
The Irish branch of the European Anti Poverty Network has today expressed its opposition to any social welfare cuts as part of efforts to mend the public finances.
A working group set up by the organisation has published a number of employment policy proposals today which it says would create a more inclusive labour market with quality jobs and affordable services.
It sstated that a broader tax base is needed to provide a more stable income stream for the State.
It said workers on the minimum wage should be not be paying any income taxes or levies.
The group also said that a strategic overhaul of education and training is urgently required.
