Clondalkin shooting victim named
The victim of today's gangland-style shooting in Clondalkin was named locally as Pierce Reid, a father-of-one whose girlfriend is believed to be expecting his second child.
Garda sources said the victim was well known to officers and suspect the killing could be linked to a feud among gangs in the local area.
He was shot at just doors away from his own home.
It is understood the later gun attack may have been carried out by the victim’s friends in retaliation.
"This is believed to be very localised incident involving people from the immediate locality or broader Clondalkin area," said a garda spokesman.
"Gardaà are following a definite line of inquiry."
Labour councillor Robert Dowds said the Lealand area was generally a very settled estate.
"We have some very sound community based people living there who want to do the best for the community," said Mr Dowds.
"But like everywhere there will be people involved in drugs activity.
"I am shocked to hear about the shooting but I’m not surprised because that sort of thing is becoming very common."
