Toddler found wandering in Clondalkin
Gardaí were today searching for the parents of a two-year-old boy found wandering alone yesterday morning.
The youngster, who is now in foster care, was discovered by a passer-by wearing only a t-shirt in Clondalkin, Dublin.
Investigating officers said they are concerned over the welfare of the toddler’s guardian who has not come forward to find him.
Superintendent John Quirke said the infant, who cannot speak, was dishevelled but physically well when he was found on Watery Lane in the town centre at 10am.
“We made house to house enquiries in the area but we haven’t been able to locate a parent or guardian,” he said.
Gardaí said the little boy has fair hair and a fair complexion.
Supt Quirke said there are housing estates and apartment blocks on each side of the road where the youngster was found and appealed for anyone who may know him to come forward.
“Our main concern is that the parents or guardian is ill,” he added.
“If anybody knows of a child that’s missing we would be anxious they contact us immediately."
Officers later released a picture of the little boy, who was found on the busy stretch of road outside Thornfield Square Apartments,
He is 17.5kg and 99cm in height, with brown eyes and curly hair and aged between two and three years old.
He is also described as having a red birthmark on his upper back.
Gardaí in Clondalkin said their main concern is for the safety and well being of the child's mother.
