A formal murder investigation has been launched after a post mortem confirmed the woman died of multiple stab wounds to her upper body.

Her body was found by two passers-by in a wooded area near Military Road, close to the Islandbridge gate of the Phoenix Park.

Detectives are trying to establish if she was killed in the area or if her body was dumped there.

They are also trying to identify the victim, who was in her 30s or 40s, around 4’ 10” in height, with brown, almost shoulder-length hair.
