Plea to taxi drivers over father-of-two's murder
Detectives investigating the murder of a father-of-two who was gunned down in front of his brother and friends launched a fresh appeal for information today.
Wayne Doherty was shot outside his family home at Oakview Way in Hartstown, north Dublin, last month.
The 32-year-old was taken to hospital after the attack, but later died from his injuries.
Gardaí are now asking taxi drivers who were in the area around the time of the murder to come forward.
They have also appealed for members of the public to contact them with any information about the shooting.
Mr Doherty had been talking with his brother and two friends when two cars pulled into the street at around 11.30pm on Saturday July 4.
An attacker got out of one of the cars and approached the victim, before opening fire twice with a shotgun.
One of the shots hit Mr Doherty in the body and left him fatally wounded.
The two cars – one of which had pulled in further down the street just before the attack – sped off.
A Garda spokesman said today: “Gardaí would like to speak to any taxi driver who was operating in the Dublin 15 area, between 11pm on July 4 and 3am on Sunday July 5.
“Gardai would also like anyone who was in the area to contact them.”
Anyone with information on the murder is asked to contact the incident room at Blanchardstown garda station on 01 666 7037.
