Galway student killed in US

An Irish student has died in hospital in the US after an accident in Chicago.

The 22-year-old has been named locally as Keith O'Reilly from Galway.

He sustained serious neck injuries after diving from a pier into a shallow area of Lake Michigan on Thursday.

A friend who was with him at the time raised the alarm and the emergency services, firefighters and police attended the scene.

He was taken to North-Western Memorial Hospital in Chicago where he died yesterday evening. A post mortem examination will be carried out later today.
