More attacks overnight in Lurgan and Belfast

Police officers came under further attack from rioting youths in Belfast last night following the violence that marked a contentious loyalist parade in the north of the city on Monday.

The PSNI says a large crowd had gathered in the nationalist Ardoyne area before targeted officers with petrol bombs and paint.

The trouble continued until around 1.30am.

Meanwhile, the police are also investigating a number of other violent incidents last night as tensions remain high following the traditional loyalist marching season.

A bus was hit with bricks and petrol bombs in Lurgan, Co Armagh, after a local football match, while stones and golf balls were also thrown at the Catholic interface with the loyalist Newtownards Road in east Belfast.

There were reports of petrol bombs being thrown in the area, but the police say they have found no evidence of this.
